Program Components
The Kessler Scholars Program experience consists of:
- Strengths-Based Holistic Advising
- Mentorship and advising sessions with professional Kessler Scholars staff will place an emphasis on identifying core values and working towards personal and academic goals together while receiving needed guidance and socio-emotional support.
- Collaborative Programming
- Cohort gatherings create the opportunity for students to build meaningful relationships with each other while learning helpful tools and navigational skills to thrive at Brown. Students will be introduced to campus resources and develop a strong understanding of their strengths/assets via circle discussions and reflection-based activities.
- Co-curricular Engagement and Leadership
- Program curriculum emphasizes student leadership development and engagement in co-curricular opportunities. Scholars are encouraged to demonstrate leadership within the broader campus community and participate in other programs and opportunities to enhance their learning and overall success.
Program Offerings
As a Kessler Scholar, you will:
- Build a community of peers and staff who serve as a support system
- Develop reflective skills that challenge and support your personal growth
- Establish connections to leadership opportunities tailored to your own interests
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of campus resources
- Receive strengths-based advising from Kessler Scholars Program staff
- Receive guaranteed funding for one summer SPRINT opportunity to support eligible research or internships
- Receive an annual academic year stipend for completing program requirements
- For the academic year 2024-2025, first-year students will receive $2,000 to support their participation. (This amount is subject to change for future cohorts as it is contingent upon grant funding.)
Program Requirements
As a Kessler Scholar, you commit to:
- Attend all scheduled cohort gatherings throughout the academic year
- Attend scheduled one-to-one meetings with program staff and peer mentors
- Attend Kessler Scholars Program off-campus community retreat
- Engage with general U-FLi Center programs and events
- Engage in 1 leadership activity per academic year
- Complete all feedback and reflection forms by the end of each semester
